Preseason football is starting in August and there are several medical issues that one needs to be thinking about. Risks not only include musculoskeletal and concussive injuries but also include environmental risks such as heat illnesses.
Today we acknowledge ACL injuries to the knee. In the NFL these injuries occur at a higher rate during the preseason. These results may in part be because younger less experienced players are often being evaluated during these games. There are still lessons to learned from this information.
In preseason football, if there has not been an adequate summer conditioning and training, we believe phasing into activities is advisable for injury prevention.
