As of mid 2021 the NCAA has allowed collegiate student athletes to be sponsored for their name image and likeness (NIL), which is essentially their own person brand.
Athletes are being approached to sponsor products. One of the most common product categories are nutritional supplements. It is the hope of the supplement companies that the athlete will use the product and its use may spread to their teammates and social media followers. Athletes should be cautious as some of these supplements may not be healthy or produced in a safe manor. Included in our resources section is a brief NCAA handout on choosing high quality supplements, take a look.
